Our tour continues north-east on RV37 towards Rjukan. Descending through the steep-sided valley to Vemork, we cross the gorge to visit the Industrial Museum in the old hydro-electric power station. This power station was key to the wartime production of heavy water for the Nazi atomic fission research. The destruction of this plant by the Norwegian Resistance and British forces forms the basis of films such as "The Heroes of Telemark".
Leaving Vemork, we continue on RV37 to Mæl, where we take RV364 around the north end of Lake Tinnsjø to Bakko and Austbygda. Here we turn north, following narrow lanes along Tessungdalen to Skålbo. The road then climbs over the top of the fells to Imingfjell.
What goes up must come down, and so we wind out way down off the plateau to Bjørkeflåta. Turning north-west onto RV40 towards Geilo, we have one more ridge to cross before we reach Dagali. Our hotel is a short distance from RV40 and offers beautiful views of the mountains.
